Autumn 2024 Nisai harvest has commenced! Key Release Dates, and Sneaky Peaks Of The New Stock

Today we begun to harvest our nisai tanks, with the aim to have our new nisai koi ready for release this week.

The purpose of this blog, is to give you an understanding of what we have coming through and when.  Price ranges, and key dates!

The key dates you will want to know are:

- The new nisai will be released online on Friday 13th September at 8pm (https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/koi-for-sale?sort_by=created-descending - The link sorts the newest koi at the top, for your convenience)

- This weekend, starting on Saturday 14th September, the new koi will be available to view and purchase in our koi shop.

- We are open as usual this weekend, on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.  No appointment needed.  If you've not visited before, please see the 'Visit Us' page on the website here: https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/pages/visit-the-adam-byer-koi-farm-shop  And look at the bottom of that page for links to our location, opening times and so on.  You can find us on google maps - just search 'Adam Byer Koi'.

Now, onto the price guide.  This year is a little different to last year because as well as the koi we've bred, we also have a harvest of Japanese koi that we've been growing on to nisai.  Most of the nisai will be priced between £195 and £495, irrespective of whether they are bred by us, or imported and grown on to nisai here.  This price range is unchanged from the last few years.  There may be a few specials above the range, and some may come in at £145.

Last year our own Kohaku spawnings failed, so to fill the gap in our range we purchased high quality tosai over the winter to grow on in our ponds this year - so that we have a go sanke nisai harvest for our customers to enjoy this autumn.  We have around 40 koi in this category, including Kohaku, Tancho's and Sanke.

Customers often ask for a better understanding of what we will be selling and when. So, lets now move on to the harvest and release plan.

We have 3 ponds of nisai to harvest, and today we completed 2 of them; and moved all the koi we plan to sell into the sales room.

One of those nisai ponds has koi we bred last year in the following varieties:

Aragoke and Doitsu Ochiba

Benigoi

Kin Showa

Kin Ki Utsuri

Beni Kikokuryu

The other pond has koi we imported from Japan over the winter, and have grown on here at Byer Koi Farm this summer.  The varieties & koi farms these koi are from include:

Tancho Kohaku (Maruhide)

Kohaku (Maruyama)

Kohaku (Saito)

Kohaku (Tamaura)

Sanke (Tamaura)

Currently - koi from these pond are now in the sales room! And we are on schedule to catalogue them all and release them as per the timeline above.

We also have a third pond of nisai to harvest, which will probably fall to next week.  This third pond includes almost the same quantity of koi as the other 2 ponds combined.  And includes koi we bred last year from the following varieties:  Yamabuki, Beni Kikokuryu, Kikisui, Ai/Budo Goromo, Kumonryu, Aragoke (a few).

Nisai Asagi and Mukashi Ogon harvests will be completed much later in the season, as they were a late spawning last year - and we've pencilled in December / Christmas time to harvest these.  We also have sansai Mukashi Ogon, Chagoi, Asagi still to harvest - and that will be completed this autumn, with the date remaining to be confirmed.

This gives you a view of our 3 ponds of nisai, and what we have coming through and when.

We are busy this week completing the harvesting and cataloguing work, and we will update the blog as often as we can with clips and previews of the koi coming on sale this Friday night, and weekend.

Normal practice is for us to release a catalogue of our nisai release, and we do plan to do that again this year.

Now, lets move onto the koi!  We have a few preview videos for you today, starting with some of our range of Doitsu Ochiba Aragoke, and Doitsu Ochiba.

We don't have many of these, and I know they are highly sought after.  We will do our best during the cataloging process to capture their 'window' ie, side views as well as the traditional overhead pictures.

These were one of the highlights in the imported tosai we bought over the winter, and they do not disappoint !  Today we got to see them up close for the first time since the spring and they look brilliant.  Great skin, body volume.  And the Tancho spot markings have held up well.  These will be amongst our higher value nisai in the harvest.

More to follow through the week, leading up to the online release on Friday night.
