A week in the life of a koi farmer (wc 15_7_24)

Round 2 spawnings are now imminent!  Everything's been cleaned down, we've received spare parts for our drum filters that will enable us to fully service them, and the tanks are now filling!  As I write this blog post, half the tanks are now full, with a few more to go which will fill up over the next few days.

Spawnings are scheduled for Sunday night through to Wednesday morning.  It's taken us a little longer than we expected to get there, and I can tell you that there's much relief this end that we are now finally there.

This next round is going to be a big one.  We'll be spawning almost everything that hasn't already been spawned.  So, it's going to be a busy few days.

As a result, shipping dates for next week have been adjusted slightly.  We are offering delivery days on Thursday and Friday, enabling us to keep Monday and Tuesday completely free to deal with the spawnings.

This weekend we will be open as normal - that's 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday.  To check our opening hours and location, check our Google Maps listing here: Adam Byer Koi Farm Location & Opening Hours

Other news....

Our Sekiguchi Showa and Omosako Shiro Utsuri imports have completed quarantine and are ready for release.  We will get these koi catalogued and released online , as time allows over the next week.

Our stock of 6-8 week old fry, and jumbo fry from round 1 is started to get low.  If you are thinking about getting some, we'd suggest placing your orders soon (https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/fry).  There's only a limited amount there, and once gone... that's it until round 2 stock which, assuming successful spawnings , will be available in around 8 weeks from now.

Round 1 spawnings are almost ready for second selection.  Some of the ponds are already there, and others need another week or so to be ready.  By the time we've completed Round 2 spawnings and catalogued the new Japanese koi that have finished quarantine, all the Round 1 koi will be ready for selection and that will be the next job - with 2-3 inch and 3-4 inch selected mixes becoming available probably in the week commencing 29th July.

The last online release included 7 Oakly chagoi tosai, and we have just 2 left!  The next harvest of Oakly chagoi's will be at nisai this autumn, so if you are interesting in growing a chagoi bred from our 105cm Oakly Chagoi female, there's still a chance!  Here's a filtered list from our koi for sale page, showing the Oakly chagoi's remaining : https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/koi-for-sale?filter.p.m.my_fields.variety=Chagoi+%28Oakly%29
