2024 Fry season: Round 2 spawnings update

Following the last update on progress with round 2 spawnings (see this blog: https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/blogs/blog/a-week-in-the-life-of-a-koi-farmer-wc-5_8_24), we have made good progress with Shusui spawning which went really well, and also the Ki Utsuri spawning that has delivered a modest output.  We are still on course for 6-8 week fry from these spawnings, around mid September.

We had two goes at round 2 spawnings - the first effort we struggled to get the females to spawn but so pleased to get a great spawning on Shusui which was using a new female Shusui supplied to us by one of the Shusui masters in Niigata, Maruhiro.  This female was supplied to us as having great potential for breeding from, and we are as excited as anyone else to see what that potential looks like when we start our first selections in a few weeks time.

We had a second go at the Round 2 spawnings, and on that occasion all the females spawned which is of course, brilliant.   But they started spawning incredibly early and we basically missed the spawning.  I've never seen a female start spawning after such a short period of time.  That left us with an output of Ochiba / Beni Kikokuryu fry produced through a natural spawning, that are now 3 weeks old and we are going to sell as 2-3 week old fry.  We will sell the entire batch, to clear the way for Round 3 which we hope will deliver the larger volumes that we need to fill our systems before the winter.

We have limited stock of these 2-3 week old fry, and they all need to be shipped next week; for delivery on either Wednesday 28th August, or Friday 30th August.

Please order from the website, here:

Round 3 spawnings will commence next week, and all being well these will go much more closely to plan than the last round!  I hope to delivery good news on these spawnings in the next couple of weeks.
