35-38cm Showa (Kase) REF - OC64
- Byer Koi Farm
Adam's Breeder's Notes: I've been wanting to get some Kase Showa's for over a year, so was really pleased to be able to select some from the autumn harvest this year. When the koi come in from harvest, the breeders split the koi into different grades. We have selected 2 bowls of nisai Showa from Kase, across two of their price points. This bowl is from their upper price point.
Kase are known for their Doitsu Metallic Ochiba, and you may remember from one of my earlier blogs about the great insight Kase-san gave me about their breeding line when I visited them last year. They also produce a range of other koi varieties and I understand their showa line is one of their newer lines, based on a female from Sekiguchi and male from Dianichi. It's clearly a great combination!
My experience of Kase is they must focus heavily on pattern through their selections and breedings because they produce koi with great patterns. And together with the breeding line background, it why we've chosen to buy 21 showa from them to put on sale here (although 1 or 2 may make their way into our own breeding programme). For now, they are all available to you, with 10 of them are presented to you in this bowl.
To help you select the right Showa from this bowl, you may find our Koi Variety Spotlight on Showa a useful read. It's a 15-20 minute read and takes you through the variety in detail - including buying tips! Our Japanese Autumn Harvest koi need to complete quarantine before they are available for release. However, they can be ordered now, and they remain at our risk until they complete quarantine. Our quarantine is extremely thorough, including two heat ramps and lasting long enough to help the koi acclimatise to UK water. This process takes around two months.
Estimated quarantine completed date: End of December '24
Ordering the koi before quarantine is complete reserves the koi for you. Once the koi have completed quarantine, they can remain here at Byer Koi Farm until the spring, free of charge. In the spring, you’ll likely be eager to bring your koi home. Customer service is key to us, so when you collect your koi, if you prefer to swap for a different koi of equal or greater value, we’re happy to accommodate that. The same applies if you opt for delivery, though we kindly ask that any decisions are made before dispatch. Once a koi leaves Byer Koi Farm, it cannot be returned, to ensure we maintain the biosecurity of the farm.
