I was in Japan early in February 2025, and took up an opportunity to hand select tosai at Hosokai. I went straight to their higher quality tosai pond, which they netted for me and I selected 30 special koi to bring back to Byer Koi Farm. Hosokai are well known for Kujaku, and this was a one of my key target varieties for the Feb 25 trip. They also breed to a high quality several other varieties and I took the chance to add some to my selection including 2 kohaku, 3 kin matusuba and a very special ko sui! To get a ko sui with such a great pattern, and high quality beni is extremely tough. I think we've produced just 2 like this over the years.
The quality of all 30 koi I selected is extremely high. Any not sold by the time quarantine ends will remain here at Byer Koi Farm for their second summer, and will be harvested, re-priced and released at nisai in the autumn.
Koi from our Feb 2025 buying trip to Japan need to complete quarantine before they are available for release. However, they can be ordered now, and they remain at our risk until they complete quarantine. Our quarantine is extremely thorough, including two heat ramps and lasting long enough to help the koi acclimatise to UK water. This process takes around two months.

Ordering the koi before quarantine is complete reserves the koi for you. Once the koi have completed quarantine, they can remain here at Byer Koi Farm until the spring, free of charge. In the spring, you’ll likely be eager to bring your koi home. Customer service is key to us, so when you collect your koi, if you prefer to swap for a different koi of equal or greater value, we’re happy to accommodate that. The same applies if you opt for delivery, though we kindly ask that any decisions are made before dispatch. Once a koi leaves Byer Koi Farm, it cannot be returned, to ensure we maintain the biosecurity of the farm.
Koi delivery is via a specialist overnight fish courier service that we have been using successfully for many years.
Local pickup is available; choose that option in the checkout process, then once purchased, contact us to arrange collection.
For dry goods, the vast majority of items ordered before midday are shipped the same day, on an overnight service.
