Discovering Marujyu Koi Farm: A First Visit to Their New Facility and seeing the results of their Collaboration with Dainichi - Pandora Line Showa Koi

A wonderful discovery for me today when I visited Marujyu Koi Farm .  My first visit to the farm and their new facility which is wonderfully laid out and the best bit was the quality of their go sanke .  Very very good , and when I learned about the collaboration with Dainichi on a line of Showa they named ‘Pandora’ , it settled my mind into sourcing koi from them.

I bought Sansai and Nisai, higher quality larger koi.  Including some ‘Pandora’ line Showa , a range of Kohaku , Tancho and Doitsu Kujaku.

I also reviewed their tosai and have been offered the chance to hand select so I am returning later in the week.  From my reconnaissance today , I expect to be able to source a good number of high quality tosai that we will grow to Nisai at Byer Koi Farm this year , with harvest and sales release in the autumn.  Like with the Kujaku from Hosokai yesterday , we will offer an opportunity to buy in the spring too.

The snow today started to impede the speed at which we could cover ground and the forecast for the next two days is more snow.  There are a few breeders I am yet to visit so I just hope the roads will be clear enough.

A couple of short snippets for you before I sign off . This clip gives you a rough idea of how much snow needs to be cleared - check out the height of the snow wall on the left hand side of the road .

And finally … dinner tonight at a famous local restaurant which is heavily automated including a robot that delivers your food.
